CURVED/labs: der eMac (2016)
Erinnert Ihr Euch an die legendäre Apple-Werbung "iMac Colors"? Knallbunte Knutschkugeln statt gritzegrauer Rechnertürme, das war Ende der Neunziger eine Revolution. Da stellt sich doch die Frage: Könnten die iMacs nicht auch mal wieder einen Anstrich gebrauchen? Und ein wenig Retro-Design obendrein? Unser neues Konzept für CURVED/labs.

"Ein Computer ist wie ein Fahrrad für den Verstand", lautet ein berühmtes Zitat von Apple-Gründer Steve Jobs. Es meint: Ein Computer kann Ideen auf den richtigen Weg bringen, um den kreativen Prozess zu beschleunigen. Das Thema Bildung war Jobs Zeit seines Lebens besonders wichtig und ist seit Gründung ein Teil der Unternehmens-DNA.
Aber erinnert sich noch jemand an den eMac? Er galt als Nachfolger des Ur-iMac mit Komplettrechner-Design und wurde dann 2005 vom völlig redesignten iMac abgelöst. Konzipiert für den Bildungsbereich fand der Rechner aber auch unter normalen Verbrauchern viele Fans.

Wir bei CURVED/labs haben uns gefragt: Was wäre, wenn Apple sich abseits des iPads wieder mit einem Desktop-Rechner auf den Bildungsmarkt konzentriert? Und wie könnte ein solcher Rechner im Jahr 2016 aussehen? Das Ergebnis: der eMac (2016). Die Specs:

„Computers are like a bicycle for our minds“ is a well-known quote by Steve Jobs. Its meaning: A computer can get ideas on the right track to accelerate the creative process. Throughout his life the issue of education was important to Jobs and has been part of the company’s DNA ever since its foundation.
But who actually remembers the eMac? It was considered to be the successor to the Ur-iMac with the design of an all-in-one PC and was ultimately replaced by a completely redesigned iMac in 2005. Having once been designed for the area of education the computer found plenty of fans in regular consumers.
We at Curved/labs asked ourselves: What if Apple once again – aside from the iPad – focused on the educational market with a desktop computer? And what might such a computer look like in the year 2016? The result: the eMac (2016).
The specs:
- same specs as latest iMac but with a 17" retina display with 4:3 screen proportion
- front-facing dual camera for 3D capture/scanning/imaging
- all glass front incorporating capacitive touch screen.
- stereo speakers on the front
- 3x USB-C connections on the back
- bluetooth for connecting to Apple magic keyboard, mouse and iPencil.
- dimensions: width: 40cm height: 39cm depth: 36cm
- 'eMac' edition available in anodized aluminum colors: silver, space grey, gold and rose gold. Front is either white or black.
- 'iMac lagacy' edition available in anodized aluminum colors: silver, space grey, pink, gold and blue. Front is same color as the body. (these are the same colors as the latest iPod lineup)
